Does Medicare Cover Acupuncture?
Many patients ask if Medicare pays for acupuncture. The answer is yes—but only for chronic low back pain. Medicare covers up to 12 visits in 90 days, and if you show improvement, it can cover up to 20 visits per year. To qualify, the acupuncture must be provided by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant with accredited acupuncture training.
At Bend Medical Acupuncture, I am the only physician in Central Oregon who provides acupuncture exclusively, making it easier for Medicare patients to receive covered care.
